Wembley Football harnesses the power of football to support and educate young people aged 9 – 14 in the Borough of Brent. The organisation brings together young people from diverse backgrounds, fostering interactions and teaching crucial life skills such as staying safe online and how to avoid antisocial behaviour and knife crime. Their free football sessions also support participants’ physical and mental wellbeing and encourage young women and girls to take part.
Founded in 2019, Wembley Football was created to fill the gap in affordable local sports facilities and outdoor experiences and to support the health and wellbeing of young people. Redrow London’s donation will benefit nearly 2,000 children, helping to fund essential equipment and compensating coaches – many of whom are alumni of the programme themselves.
The donation comes as we launch a nationwide campaign encouraging people across the country to get outdoors and play this summer. Our recent research has revealed that over half (52%) of parents think playing a team sport is one of the most beneficial activities for their child to do while only a third (33%) of children across the nation play team sports.
Zaffar Van Kalwala, Chair of Wembley Football, said: “Sports are vital for young people, providing lessons in teamwork, responsibility and leadership while keeping them active. We also use football as a gateway to support and educate young people on everyday challenges."
“On behalf of everyone at Wembley football, I would like to thank Redrow for their generous donation which will help us continue our mission and help local youth thrive.”
The donation is part of our London Community Fund which launched this year. The fund provides organisations, schools and groups at the heart of the North West London community with donations to help them flourish. We have also provided investment in the area surrounding Colindale Gardens and has handed over 249 new homes to Barnet Council to support the accessibility of affordable homes in the area.
James Holmear, Groups Sales Director at Redrow, said: “Sport is a cornerstone of community, bringing people together and supporting wellbeing and we are delighted to support Wembley Football."
“At Redrow we believe in the importance of play and getting outdoors which is why all of our developments feature designated green spaces. Colindale Gardens boasts a four-acre park, gardens, cycle paths, walkways and outdoor play areas where the community can come together, stay active and play outdoors.”
Our Colindale Gardens has a range of contemporary one and two bedroom homes for sale. The surrounding area of Colindale is continuing to undergo a transformation following significant investment in the Brent Cross and Cricklewood area. These plans will bring a new primary school, local shops, cafes and restaurants within the development as well as a newly refurbished tube station.
