Marshall’s Arm was designated a local nature reserve 25 years ago to provide an educational facility for the campus schools and local community. Greenbank Wood, which adjoins the Redrow Hartford development, is allocated ancient woodland and is home to native bluebell collections and several badger sets also exist within the woodland.
The donation from our community fund means visitors to the nature reserve can now pick up a leaflet to find out more about the local area.
Richard Haffenden, treasurer of Marshall’s Arm Friends and Management Group, said: “We’ve now got two vandal proof leaflets dispensers at the new entrance and the bottom entrance to provide information on the heritage trail. They will inform the local community and in particular the many new residents of Hartford about this unique asset that we have right on our doorstep. It will provide the opportunity to gain knowledge of the heritage and ecology of the area whilst encouraging the community to enhance their physical and mental health whilst protecting this unique environment.”
A new access path and bridge has been installed by Cheshire West and Chester Council’s contractors using funds from our S106 contributions. These also paid for an upgrade of the path and bridges leading down to the River Weaver.
All general maintenance of the reserve is carried out by volunteers from Marshall’s Arm Friends and Management Group and all the group’s funding is sourced via grants.
Anna Evans-Kerr, sales director at Redrow NW, said: “One of the great assets of our Redrow Hartford development is its access to walks along the River Weaver and through Marshall’s Arm Reserve. When the group applied to our community fund there was no doubt we wanted to help them provide the leaflet dispensers so people can read up about their local area.”
Redrow Hartford is made up of two phases, Weaver Park and Water’s Reach, and is down to the final six homes.
