First-time buyers, Dermot and Lauren Cavanagh, were the first to reserve a new home at Thames Valley’s development, The Maltings, in Haddenham, after attending a launch event at neighbouring development, Sanderson Park, in Bicester.
Lauren, originally from Wales, had been renting a property in Putney with her husband Dermot, who was born in Ireland, when the pair decided to swap city life for a rural escape. Although both based in London, with Lauren practising law at a firm in Hammersmith and Dermot working in the finance sector in the city, the couple had become tired of the rising costs of London life and its busy nature.
Having been married for almost a year, and after Lauren visited a friend for dinner who recently moved to the beautiful village of Haddenham, the couple decided to see what was on offer outside of the London bubble.
With Lauren driving to her office in Hammersmith, and Dermot set to commute to his London office a few days a week, the couple were keen to find a home in the region that had quick, commutable routes to the capital. Having lived in London for seven years, among the hustle and bustle, a strong community feel was also at the top of Dermot and Lauren’s search criteria.
Upon hearing about The Maltings, the couple were attracted to the four-bedroom Harrogate. A beautiful example of our Heritage Collection, this home is ideal for family life, offering a superb balance between open-plan living and spacious lounges and bedrooms.
This is also the division’s first development of our eco-friendly homes, which are built with innovative low-carbon technology and feature air source heat pumps and underground floor heating as standard in line with the housebuilder’s goals to reach its Net Zero targets.
After visiting The Harrogate show home, at the nearby Sanderson Park development in Bicester, the couple knew they needed to snap up their new home immediately. Instinctively, they decided to put a deposit down so that they could look forward to continuing married life together in their dream home.
When asked for advice and top tips for future first-time buyers, Dermot said: “It takes lots of discipline and motivation to be able to save – one piece of advice I’d share is to always put money aside at the beginning of the month, and stick to your budget from there.”
After seeing The Maltings, the couple were impressed by our design and overall approach. Lauren said: “We had seen so many houses from different developers, and the Heritage Collection from Redrow was in a different league – especially in comparison to other new build properties. The bedrooms were all generously sized, and the exterior design of each property was picture perfect with its traditional character.
“We were keen to continue married life together with a blank canvas so that everything was in place for us to make our first official house together a home, as we hopefully welcome some little ones in the years to come. We loved the idea of moving to a new development and the community feel that comes when people all share a similar experience at the same time.
“We couldn’t be more excited about beginning our Redrow journey together – and the plot couldn’t be more perfect. I’ve already started envisioning the interior design in every room and Dermot teases that I’m slowly becoming a ‘house-zilla’. We can’t wait to get the keys for our forever home – it truly is our dream house and we look forward to making many memories here over the years to come.”
Sarah Boyce, Sales Director for Redrow Thames Valley, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to welcome the very first family, Lauren and Dermot, to join our brand-new Haddenham development, The Maltings.
“As workplaces adapt to suit flexible working, the novelty of living in a large city has begun to wear off for many – with homebuyers now looking to be nearer to green, open spaces, while retaining good city connections, and of course, getting much more for their money.
“We’d invite anyone who likes the idea of spacious, luxury living to find out more about our extremely popular new development, The Maltings – as Dermot and Lauren have shown, these new homes won’t last long!”
Located just six miles from Aylesbury and with key travel routes within easy reach, The Maltings offers two, three, four, and five-bedroom homes, available from £500,000. Situated in picturesque village surroundings, yet still in a well-connected location, makes the development perfectly placed for first-time buyers, growing families and commuters alike. Oxford is just a stone’s throw away, and both the A41 and M40 are easily accessible. There are also direct trains from Haddenham & Thame Parkway to London Marylebone in around an hour, ideal for commuters looking for closer proximity to green, open space with more house for their money.
