Members of the local community are invited to visit the development on Thursday 14th November from 12:00- 1:00pm to celebrate the unveiling, meet the artist and get a behind the scenes look at his artistic process.
Titled What We Left Behind, the new sculpture was inspired by research around the Iron Age and Roman pottery, leading Jason to create a collection of vessels crafted from Ancaster Weatherbed Limestone which could have been used be the previous settlers. The final collection consists of an old cauldron pot, an oil lamp and a long neck jar, designed to be abstract versions of the original terracotta vessels.
Jason Mulligan, Artist, comments: “What was left behind by a previous generation of people, consists of fragments of pottery which have now been reimagined and made whole again in this site-specific sculpture for Monchelsea Park. Immortalised in stone and now suggesting a new gathering, standing together, possibly in conversation and with an everchanging outlook and view towards the future.”
At the event Jason will be bringing along his sketchbooks and maquettes and will be available to talk about his latest work and the process of making it. Teas, coffees and cake will be on offer to those in attendance and residents and the local community can come together to discuss the artwork, whilst also having a look around the development.
Josephine Baker, Planning Director at Redrow South East, said: “At Redrow, we’re committed to delivering a better way to live for all our residents and as part of this, invest in the local area and wider community such as with community art projects like this one.
“We are honoured to welcome the talented Jason Mulligan and host his new artwork at Monchelsea Park which will be on display for residents and the wider community to enjoy. This is set to be a really exciting day for the community, and we hope to see you there!”
