Local declutter expert shares top tips for seasonal refresh

8th May 2025
Redrow - News - Elizabeth Wickes

Redrow Eastern has teamed up with Elizabeth Wickes, The Lifestyle Organiser, a professional home management service, based in East Anglia, to give homeowners practical tips and hacks for getting their home in order before summer.

Elizabeth has over 14 years of experience and is passionate about transforming spaces and bringing order and beauty to busy lives. Whether you’re getting your home ready to sell or just giving it a seasonal refresh, her decluttering and organising tips can help create a calm and welcoming environment.

Elizabeth commented: “Spring is my favourite time of year for a home refresh. It’s the perfect chance to focus on what truly matters: the things you love, use and need! Decluttering and reorganising can be overwhelming which is why it’s so important to take it step by step and have tangible, simple and sustainable methods you can go back to time and again.”

Elizabeth Wickes’ Top Tips for a Seasonal Refresh

  • Declutter room by room: Decluttering is less overwhelming when you have a clear plan ahead of you. Taking on an entire house can feel like an immense challenge, so it is best to tackle one room at a time, using these categories to guide your decisions: Keep, Donate, Sell, Remove. Only keep your favourite items that you still use often and get rid of everything else that you don’t need. Remember: Be Ruthless when Reducing! Get the family involved: If your home has been the family hub for years, it may be storing more than just your memories! Ask your children to sort through any other belongings. Whether it’s memorabilia, books, or furniture, give them a deadline to decide what they want to keep. This helps clear space while giving everyone ownership of the process.
  • Don’t overlook outdoor areas: Garages, lofts, and outbuildings are clutter magnets. Be thorough when decluttering these spaces. Discard any items that are broken and take to your local recycling centre or invest in a skip to make the process a little easier. Handle sentimental items thoughtfully: When it comes to sentimental belongings, less is more. Invest in sturdy, clear storage boxes to protect precious items like photos and keepsakes. Label these boxes carefully and set a limit on how much you’ll store. This way, you keep only the most meaningful items without creating clutter.
  • Tidy up & securely shred outdated paperwork: Old paperwork has a way of piling up. Sort through and shred anything outdated, and store important documents separately so they’re easy always easy to access when you need them.
  • Take care of yourself during the process: Decluttering can be emotional, especially when working through a family home. Remember to take breaks, stay hydrated, and eat well. Reflect on the wonderful memories while staying focused on the exciting opportunities ahead.

Elizabeth hosted a declutter masterclass event this weekend at our Hendricks Green development in Goff Oak, Hertfordshire. The professional organiser was on hand to give homeowners practical tips and hacks for optimising their storage space first hand.
