Congleton park served with brand new table tennis table

6th June 2024
Redrow News - Congleton Community Fund

An unused area of Congleton Park is now home to a weatherproof outdoor table tennis table after a donation from Redrow.

Friends of Congleton Park, who promote the park, applied for a portion of our community fund.

Glen Williams, chairman of Friends of Congleton Park, said: “Now the table tennis table is installed, the Congleton community can use it whenever they wish. We’re encouraging people to bring their own equipment, but bats and balls can be hired from the park bungalow.

“We wanted to open up the sport to all ages and abilities, connect the community and hopefully help to create new friendships. We’re also hoping that it will create an enjoyable experience for young people, increase their confidence and self-esteem and ensure that they keep fit and healthy. With the weather getting better, we’re hoping the table will get lots of use over the summer months.”

Friends of Congleton work in partnership with Congleton Town Council, Cheshire East Council and Ansa to ensure the park's heritage, distinctiveness, flora and fauna are protected. They also deliver small projects in the park including holding regular events.

The Friends group are currently finalising a five-year management plan, developing a new website, refreshing their volunteer offer and delivering several projects to improve signage, entrances to the park and trails in the woods. New future projects include providing a mini outdoor gym and picnic area and creating additional wildflower areas.

Emily Carey, area sales manager for Redrow NW, said: “Our community funds are in place to enhance communities where we build so the addition of the table tennis table at Congleton Park is great. It will bring members of the community closer together and inspire them to lead more active and sociable lifestyles, irrespective of ability or background.”

Our Round Hill Gardens includes a mix of three-, four- and five-bedroom properties. The development is open seven days a week, usually from 10am-5.30pm.
